I've never paid that much for sausage

Well after my afore mentioned night of luxury at the lodge of travel, it was time for breakfast, which they very kindly offer as an extra.....and not just any breakfast, but an 'all you can eat' breakfast. All well and good, except not only do they have a fair idea how much you can eat, they know for certain that you can't eat £8 worth, but that's what they'll charge you to try

Luckily next to the Travelodge was a Morrisons, which not only provided our parking but also offered breakfast for a much more reasonable amount, £7 for both of us in fact, and it was still 'all I could eat'.

It took 4 hours to drive home from Manchester, 4 hours of non stop motorway driving, this is something I'm not used to....in fact when we were held up by a lorry tyre blown out across the road, I very nearly got out to pick up the pieces, just to break up the monotony

This afternoon drifted by, little bit of tv and a good workout in the gym. Few disappointments but also a lot of improvements so that's good and keeps enthusiasm up

This evening a mate came over and we watched 'Flight', starring Denzel Washington, it wasn't quite what we were expecting but a very entertaining film all the same, maybe more of a rental than a cinema film, but ill leave that up to you, it's released in cinemas tomorrow

Despite my visit to Old Trafford yesterday, I'm not really a massive sports fan, though certain news stories are unavoidable. The obvious one today being that of David Beckham and his announcement that he will not only join a new team but also take no salary for the 5 months he has signed for. Some people would probably argue that the good publicity outweighs the loss of earnings, some would argue that he doesn't need the money. I would say both of these are true, but to be honest I think he's probably done it because he can, because he genuinely wants to help a charity and that he thinks perhaps it will inspire other people to make their own contribution. Either way, he can certainly teach modern footballers and society a great deal and has also reaffirmed why he is such a popular guy and why he will surely one day be Sir David

I shall leave you tonight with a few pictures. My possible choice of breakfast this morning, another picture with unfortunate lighting and an inspirational message for tomorrow (which I hope I've not used before)

Bye bye for now

£1 an inch

This is my second writing of this blog today as it got lost somewhere between uploading and being online, so excuse me if I make slightly less effort

Last night I had the great pleasure of attending Old Trafford for the Man Utd v Saints game, but not in any ordinary seat, oh no. In the Evolution Executive Suite if you will. Whilst not cheap (luckily I'm stinking rich, well half of that is true) it really is an entirely different way to see a football game

The evening started in our suite, overlooking the stadium, where we were treated to an inclusive bar, and a 3 course meal, consisting of 'Confit chicken and red onion terrine (I think), an amazing roast beef and mustard mash, and chocolate pecan pie with ice cream. Now I'm a fussy eater at the best of times so was a little apprehensive about the meal, however it was all very nice and much better than a greasy burger or hot dog.

The view for the game was as good as I could hope for, with a lovely padded seat to park my arse on and food and drink waiting for us both at half time and full time, though we did only get 5 minutes at the table at half time. Of course the score line wasn't half bad either, though so many times in the second half it looked like it was going to go the other way

Unfortunately it was upon leaving the ground that things went a little downhill. We'd got a taxi there, in daylight, as it was pouring with rain, and were confident that we'd be able to find our way back, on foot, in the dark. We were very wrong. After walking for around 30 minutes along the wrong road, which we couldn't leave as there was a river separating us from the correct road, we ended up on a tram and heading back the way we'd come. So just an hour after leaving the ground, we'd completed our 0.5 mile journey back to the hotel

Now to the title of today's blog. I'd booked a travelodge as it was £26 for the night, and had booked a family room as couldn't get a twin room (I'd traveled with my dad). Unfortunately it was at 11:45pm, upon pulling out the sofa bed that I realised it was just over 2ft wide, only 5ft long and akin to a plank of wood with sheet. I think when they stated that you could fit 4 people in the room, they meant 4 of Snow White's friends...and let me tell you, I was more Grumpy that Happy and today I am definitely Sleepy. The bed, combined with my dad's snoring meant I'd have got a better sleep at home, even with a 3 year old in the house

Now it's time for breakfast before the long drive home, so ill leave you with the best Facebook post I've seen in a while, a twitter profile that only needs to follow one person and exactly what I would do on my last day

Bye bye for now

If I was a rich man

So last night was 'The Last Stand' and I must admit I was a little disappointed at the lack of appropriate head gear, I'd really worked myself up for an exciting documentary. However, I must admit that what followed was actually a very entertaining film. And all 9 of us in the cinema seemed to enjoy it

Up early today with Amelia, my turn, but today was nursery day so that meant a day to myself. Started with an early workout in the gym, in theory a legs workout, but made all the more fun by stiff arms from yesterday's workout.

What followed was a day of mainly washing and tidying, nothing all that exciting to be honest which has left me a little short of things to write about today. However, responses to my earlier Facebook post about what people would like to change about their houses proved interesting

Is anyone really totally happy with where they live, I mean completely, wouldn't change a thing happy. I don't think so. But that raises a bigger question, does anyone want to be.......

We all talk about 'if I won the lottery', about what we would buy or what we would do. But would it really make us happy? Think about when you save up for something, an iPad, a car, a kitchen, and the day comes when you can afford it (assuming you're not a customer of Wonga or similar), the feeling you get that you've worked for something, would you want to lose that?

Of course we'd all like to earn a bit more, for our bills to be a little lower, but would £10 million make you happy? Or would you then think 'if only I'd won £20 million, then we could have bought this house, or this car'. There are many millionaires and billionaires in the world, but how many of them just call it a day and just go shopping

Money can buy you a lot of things, but it can't buy happiness, it can't cure incurable diseases, it won't make you a nicer person or make anyone else nicer to you (not genuinely)

So next time you think 'I wish we could win the lottery tonight', just think, will it solve all your problems?

And on that note, numbers for tomorrow

5, 9, 15, 27, 34, 48

Tonight I shall leave you with a very scared lorry cargo, sensible toilet based advice, and useful research for any dad who's daughter is going away

Bye bye for now

And breathe......in

Today began like many other days, it started off dark and gradually got lighter....I believe it also got warmer as well, though I spent most of the day indoors so I can't be sure

Amelia woke at 6:21 and Jac very kindly went to get her up. I had the perfect opportunity for a lay in, so I did the only sensible thing I could do.....trackies and trainers on and into the gym for a workout...there really is no better way to start the day......not when you have a 3 year old in the house anyway

After dropping Jac off to work....I know...perfect husband....Amelia and I met up with a friend and her little girl to go swimming. Amelia had decided that Fleming Park did not offer the excitement she was looking for....'it doesn't even have a pirate ship daddy' so Romsey Rapids it was. Much fun was has careering down the flume and flowing around the rapids....and Amelia enjoyed every minute of watching me do it

Now, I make no pretence of having a 6 pack and 28 inch waist...well some times I do, but not often. But I must say I do find it most amusing at the swimming pool when you see other blokes 'strutting' around as though they're carrying two rolls of carpet. Sure they have big chests, though this is be result of sucking their belly in so much that it has to go somewhere. Before anyone accuses me of going to the pool to look at other men....that's basically what I do ;-) (joke, I'm a total pervert for the women in bikinis.....ssshhhh)

Swimming was followed by a trip to Frankie & Benny's, unfortunately 11 minutes too late for breakfast, I'm a big fan of 'the works', so it had to be lunch. Now I'm not a greedy gent, so I settled for a teeny weeny 15 inch pizza....with ice cream for dessert...with our VIP card, Amelia also had a main course and dessert for the grand total of ZERO pounds and ZERO pence...happy days!!

This afternoon was less 'rock and roll' and consisted of a trip to Tesco, where a new 'Pirate' toothbrush was purchase for Jac....she's so pleased

Time for dinner now and then a trip to the cinema to see 'The Last Stand' which I understand to be a film about the history of gentlemen's headwear furniture, should be a cracker

I haven't had a great deal of time to find amusing pictures today, so lets scrape the barrel with Tesco's new 'Health & Beauty' range, a Tesco apology and the newest water slide in China

Bye bye for now

The Wright Stuff and an Arse

Well I've had my first missed blog day, yesterday, but as I will explain today I did have an excuse.

My relaxed weekend started yesterday with taking Amelia to ballet.

Being the forward thinking dad that I am, I checked if she needed the toilet before leaving home, before putting her ballet costume on. So you can just imagine my delight when after getting her completely ready and just a about to go in, I heard the words 'I need a wee wee'. This of course meant stripping off completely, redressing (wrongly), stripping off again and then getting dressed....leaving us 'only' 5 minutes late

At around 2 o'clock I was collected by my mate Alex, who for the benefit of this blog shall be referred to as 'the groom'. Over to his parents to get suited and shoe-ted :-/ and then off to the venue early to get some pictures before the light faded

A beautiful ceremony was rivalled only by my even more beautiful speech. I was a little concerned that referring to being best man at the groom's 'Next' wedding and making reference to him possibly being a homosexual may not have gone down too well, but as it turned out they drew more laughs than gasps

Something else which drew as many laughs as gasps would be the moment, around 10:30pm, when whilst happily Cossack dancing my trousers split straight down the arse and half way down my leg. This resulted in me wearing a pashmina based sarong for the rest of the night. Second only to the bride, I may have been the hottest one in a skirt.

Today has been pretty relaxed really, a child free morning being followed by lunch for 2. Then collecting Amelia who spent most of the afternoon asleep, whilst this unfortunately meant we didn't make it to the pub with the bride and groom they seemingly had a very merry afternoon

Tonight will just be chilling out on the sofa, bit of popcorn and maybe a movie before my working week starts tomo....oh no, that's right, I'm not working again until Saturday :-D

As a slight variation to my funny Internet sourced photos, I shall include one from last nights activities, so i'll leave you with another cryptic film poster, a disgruntled newspaper editor, an unfortunate military mistake and what is basically my arse

Bye bye for now

I believe I can fly

I believe I can touch the sky, I think about it every night and day, just move that motorway barrier out the way

It was the lyrical genius R Kelly, or as northerners call him 'our Kelly' that wrote the above lines....though without the motorway barriers. To be fair though, R Kelly also thought he could have with sex under age girls and no one would think it inappropriate, but that a whole other court case

I like to imagine that it was R Kelly's Greatest Hits :-/ that was playing on the 8 track of the car we were sent to tonight, it had managed to launch itself off a bank, across two lanes of slip road and land backwards on the other side of the motorway barrier. The driver, lets call her Cornwall (because her name was Devon) had obviously have a lapse in concentration

Fortunately for Corny, she only suffered minor injuries and was just taken to hospital as a precaution, considering it was only the, now flattened, lamppost that saved her from going backwards into the sea, she was very lucky indeed

What followed was the complete farce that is the motorway maintenance team, taking a grand total of around 90 minutes just to replace our cones and lights (sometimes it is about cones and signs) with some bigger boy ones, so that they could start work on repairing the barrier.....even the car only took 5 minutes to be recovered. Still sometimes it's nice to not be the only one in a hi viz jacket stood around seemingly doing nothing....freezing my toes off

Yesterday was my first training session in my new home gym (the second was today) and today was a stark reminder of the fact that I've done no training for some time, it's amazing the things you take for granted, like being able to straighten your arms, lift them above shoulder height, and even wipe your own bottom ;-). All of these things have proven very difficult today. It's a strange feeling though because even though I'm struggling to open and close my own car door this evening, I take great satisfaction in knowing that I've once again taken the first step to getting a bit fitter.....maybe I'll even suggest a Traffic Officer Calendar for next year ;-)

As I sit having my dinner looking over Portsmouth, struggling to lift my wooden fork, putting the finishing touches to my Best Man speech for tomorrow, ill leave you with some pictures

A couple of cryptic film titles, a touching message ruined by grammar and a High Five because your all great (I know it's you're)

Bye bye for now

Thursday 24 January 2013

It's not all cones and signs

I was reminded again today of what the general perception of my job is.....doing nothing all the time

Now I won't pretend that I physically work any harder than anyone else, I won't pretend that I always work particularly hard, but it all comes down to your definition of difficult

Is helping a lone female stuck at the side of the motorway (statistically the most dangerous place to be - I seem to recall a figure being thrown around that you were safe for an average of 11 minutes on the hard shoulder, I don't believe this, but it's far from safe) by changing her wheel difficult...no, generally it's not, is removing that person from a dangerous, vulnerable position to a place of safety and comfort a worthwhile activity, I would say yes

Is stopping the motorway to remove a dead deer or lorry exhaust, or roof box, or metal joist (or, or, or) difficult, not really, but is it worthwhile. Most cars will collide with most of those things without suffering drastically, but what about a motorbike, what about the car that takes evasive action to avoid it and hits a barrier, or a lorry, or even a pedestrian.....is it just an inconvenience then

What about resuscitating someone at the roadside, brushing up someone's teeth when they've been scalped after coming off their motorbike, dealing with family members that have heard about a crash that arrive to find their loved ones seriously injured, watching someone get hit by a car doing 70mph and thrown 50m down the road.....or dealing with the aftermath of a young woman (mistaken for a shop mannequin) that's been ripped apart by various cars because she was in such a state of depression that leaving her family at home and walking out on to a motorway seemed like the only way out....is that difficult, yes it's fucking difficult

Maybe we laugh about watching a bit of tv, having a snooze and even doing a bit of shopping because we're bloody glad that that's all we've had to do that day

I appreciate that this won't change most people's opinions of what we (my colleagues and I) do, but please appreciate that sometimes it's about more than throwing out a few cones and standing with our hands in our pockets

Apologies that this isn't my usual poor attempt at humorous writing, but it just summed up how I was feeling today

On a slightly lighter note, I shall leave you with someone that may have their priorities wrong, a Taliban mistake, and the way of contacting the Dark Knight when you only have a vegetable

Bye bye for now

Where are those 6 inches you promised me last night

No, this wasn't what Jac said to me this morning...I had in fact left the house an hour before she was awake so she wouldn't have had the opportunity anyway

I am of course talking about the snow. I worked late yesterday in preparation for treacherous weather, blizzard conditions, so I awoke this morning fully expecting a repeat of last Friday....but....nothing

What followed at work was a pretty quiet day, steady with routine jobs, but generally quiet so I was not disappointed to finish at 2 o'clock

I collected Amelia from my mums house, then collected a mate and we went to Ikea. In honesty I only went there for meatballs (which I've just had for dinner, yum yum) but I also bought some really exciting things, a washing up brush and some glasses. I also bought Amelia a chair for the living room which she assured me she would sit in 'every single day', I fully expect the novelty to have worn off by tomorrow, but as luck would have it its the right height to use as a foot stool

The main problem with Ikea is whilst there is a lot there I don't like, there's a lot there that I do. I could easily have spent several thousand pounds on various things and its now made me want to redecorate half of the house....anyone wanting to make a contribution, feel free to contact me for bank transfer details

I can't see this evening getting anymore exciting, unless a women's Swedish volleyball team break down in the road and need somewhere to wait for recovery....you never know...this 'could' happen

So tonight I shall leave you with a few pictures for a change

A place all men would love to go, the best way of fooling a mate into thinking he's snowed in, and the little known secret of how they make fairy liquid

Bye bye for now

Watch out for crocs

Now I don't want to take the credit for introducing Crocs to the UK....no really, I don't. But I did have mine long before they were around over here, having purchased them in Canada. Whilst they are obviously highly fashionable, I have tonight discovered a flaw in the design, a flaw that sees me writing this barefoot with very cold toes. Do not put your wheelie bins out, which are covered in snow, wearing crocs....the snow will go down your legs and all over your feet

First day of working week today, so 6 am start. We were over staffed on shift this morning so I was spare, that meant this morning was spent dropping off and collecting cars from various garages, along work cooking a bacon sandwich on the works Baby George. Ironically we were short staffed on the late shift today and with heavy snow predicted this afternoon I ended up staying on to work part of the afternoon shift....as it turned out that meant staying on until 7pm....and another car collected from the garage.

Today I found out what a £102,000 Range Rover is like....to sit in, you definitely know you're well off when the simple art of closing a car door is too tricky and you need 'soft close' doors on your car...and how could anyone live without freeview television for the school run. Anyway, I decided I didn't like the face lifted headlights on the new car so have cancelled my order....back to the drawing board...and bank safe

I came home just after 7 and was greeted by Amelia jumping on me for a cuddle and showing me the sticker placemat she'd made to take to nursery on Thursday....what a perfect end to the day

After my bacon roll this morning and Sainsbury's pizza for lunch (£4.29 for a 14'' pizza, cooked whilst you wait) I'm now not really hungry so it's Eastenders, a quick bath then bed I think

I leave you today with a reason why Safeway may have been forced to close, a perfect name for an air conditioning company and definitely the man the company had in mind when designing their vehicle advertising graphics

Until tomorrow.....Bye bye for now

Throwing a snowman in a lake

This morning Amelia chose to sleep until nearly 7 o'clock, this would be happy days had I not fallen asleep on the sofa last night and woken up there, along with bad back, this morning! :-/

We dropped Jac at work, we're nice like that, and then came home to do some sticking and drawing, I'm always amazed by Amelia's imagination and creativity. Do 'only children' develop a greater imagination etc, that's something for debate....though not today, because the outcome won't effect my life

Drive, Asda, Shop, Pay, Home

We had guests for lunch today in the shape of a friend and her lovely 9 month old daughter, it won't be long until she's happily feeding herself and no longer needing a bib....perhaps her daughter can teach her

(If you actually read this and not just look at the pictures, like or comment on fb, lol)

This afternoon ended with a trip to Lakeside for a walk in the remaining snow with friends. There was a small frozen pond in a field there, and you can't just leave a pond frozen, especially with two 3 year olds. We tried sticks, stones, snowballs and even my finest chat up lines, but nothing would break the ice....that is until Amelia's friend suggested throwing in a snowman that was close by. Of course I was shocked by this idea, you can't throw a snowman into a lake.....without breaking him in half first....and so this snowman met his end a little sooner than the thaw would have done for him

I finally got around to finishing building my new bench for my home gym tonight, so that's ready to be put into action tomorrow afternoon when I finish work....I may need to apologise to my neighbours for the loud music that will be blasting out at around 3pm.....if I'm a singing, don't come a ringing

All that leaves is dinner, a quick bath then early bed before first early shift tomorrow...still only 4 days this week before a week off, starting with a wedding where I shall be the best man

I shall leave you with the torment that poor Winnie had to suffer, Jamal hard at work...well done Jamal and the face of the ladder that just loves square crisps

Bye bye for now

How does Alex Zulle feel?

Now I don't follow competitive cycling, I own a bike....it's in the shed somewhere...but I'm not a fan of cycling. I thought Bradley Wiggins was alright until I watched a documentary about him, now, hmm, not so much. But I've found myself asking today 'How does Alex Zulle feel?'
Some of you won't know who Alex Zulle is, I don't really have a clue myself. Wikipedia will tell us he's from Switzerland, he's 44 and his nickname was Perro Loco.
Now you may be wondering what the relevance of all this is, well in 1999, Alex Zule, came second in probably the most well known cycling race in the world, 'The Tour De France'. Beaten by.....well Wikipedia will tell us 'no one' but (un)officially he was beaten by Lance Armstrong, the first of Lance Armstrong's 7! victories in the competition.
As I said at the start, I know nothing about cycling, in fact this blog was nearly written about Erik Zabel, but I did a little research
Many people will have different opinions about Lance Armstrong, no one can claim that recent admissions haven't effected their opinion of him, but is he really as bad as some would have us believe
Ok, so he didn't win the Tour De France 7 times, he probably didn't win lots of things, but then lots of people haven't done what he hasn't done...stick with me.
What a lot of people also haven't done is what he HAS done. He has inspired thousands of people to start cycling, he gave hope and determination to thousands of cancer sufferers who felt that if Lance Armstrong could beat it and go on to do what he had done then they could too, his profile has helped to raise over 500 million dollars!!! for cancer research/awareness.
He has 'finally' been honest with everyone and with that has had to tell his children that he is not the hero that they thought he was, his fans that he was a cheat, been banned from any sanctioned sporting event for life, and lost his dignity and self respect
The definition of cheating is to gain an unfair advantage over your opponent, and he argues that he was merely levelling the playing field....maybe that's true, maybe we'll never know. But what I do know is he has still achieved more in his life than many of us could hope to achieve in their lives.....just something to think about.
Oh and I went to see Django Unchained tonight....it's very good
Bye bye for now

Since its become apparent that most people just look at the pictures, here is Tom Daley with something other than diving on his mind, why you should always read to the end before making assumptions and why you should never give up as you may just be closer than you think

Snow White & The Fat Snowman

My exciting day yesterday decided not to finish until around 11pm, after being called back up the M3 to deal with a car that had collided with a lorry, the central reservation and was parked in lane 3. The guy was very lucky to have not sustained any injuries and I was very relieved to see one less Peugeot on the road

By the time I got home, and in to bed it was around midnight, so it was very much appreciated that I was given a lie in this morning, though still had the joy of being awoken around 6ish

Saturday morning was ballet, for Amelia, now I've never actually been into the class so we just drop her off each week and hope that they are teaching her something...still, at £4 a lesson it's not the most expensive babysitter. Ballet is always followed by soft play with her friend so that saw out the morning

After a late lunch, it was time to jump on the sledge and tow Amelia round to a friends house, sorry we were late, to drop off something small and shiny and then back home for some fun the garden. Someone once said that a snowman resembles the person that built it, but this snowman is neither a gorgeous little girl or a devilishly handsome, funny, intelligent, wonderful man.....so this person was wrong

Amelia and I then went to the disco which was fun...for her, I just sat gossiping like an old woman

And this evening shall be spent with cheese and bacon waffles, skittles, magnums and pop corn...along with a film

Bored....tough

To finish, a wonderful engineering flow chart, my idea of a health and safety sign and a picture which sums up my current exercise regime

Bye bye for now

Friday 18 January 2013

At what expense?

Today I was possibly the most childish person in my house, and by childish I mean I was out throwing snowballs before most people were out of bed

Both Jac and I had work today, so when realising that nursery was open, Jac dropped Amelia off around 8ish and went to work. I on the other hand did the responsible adult thing....throwing snowballs at my neighbours...and even making one for a small boy to throw at his mum :-)

But after that silliness I had to be more grown up. So I phoned my mate and arranged a snowball fight....a fight I may add that his 14 year old daughter was too cool to join in with. We were also joined by another of my mates, average age of soldiers 33 and 1/2. I'd like to say no small children were harmed during the fight, but Colin made sure that wasn't the case.....though they'll never know their attacker.

At 12 o'clock nursery closed so Jac collected Amelia and came home. Amelia and I played in the snow in the garden and then I pulled her in the sledge down to the chippy for some lunch ;-)

After my responsible, mature, adult morning it was time for work at 2. And I was greeted by a themed snowman, some would say he was a productive member of staff....certainly more productive than some.

A surprisingly quiet day, unexpected in this weather. We towed one damaged car from the central reservation after a 3 car RTC, they're not called RTA's anymore....there's no such thing as an accident....controversial maybe (this was a real job)

Later was a job that is purely a made up scenario, this obviously did not happen, and I would never use this blog to question management decisions.

We observed a car and motorcycle on the hard shoulder on the opposite carriageway, so we turned to see if we could offer assistance. On arrival, the police were already there. It was a single vehicle collision :-/ the motorcyclist had come off and slid down the carriageway, very luckily she was not injured. Anyway, the car driver had stopped to offer help and had the rider sat in his car.

The police said the car driver was keen to leave, having been there for some time and asked if we would be able to put the woman in our vehicle to keep warm and calm etc (the police vehicle had no rear seats) Now I'm sure we've all heard horror stories of people sitting in someone's car after an accident, developing neck pains and the roof having to be cut off. But this woman was not injured and no pain had developed in half an hour, so it was unlikely to kick in soon.

Instinct would tell you to put her in the car, keep her warm (it was below freezing and heavy snow) and keep her calm. But no, that was not the management decision, 'under no circumstances do you put that person in your vehicle' when questioned as to whether we should leave her stood in the snow for 2 hours to await recovery, we were told 'under no circumstances...'

This was followed by a call from management to ask why I was questioning them and that I knew the rules.... I stated that I valued human welfare above that of a car and was reminded that I knew the rules. The job was left with the police.....

It's time like this that my job really grinds my gears....at least it would if it wasn't a made up scenario

So with that, i'm hypothetically not feeling very jolly tonight so i'll leave you with the the afore mentioned snowman, 'if dogs had twitter' and a revelation about Lance Armstrong you may not be aware of....in the hope that cheering you up, may cheer me up

Bye bye for now

Disclaimer - all scenarios in this blog are hypothetical unless stated otherwise, any resemblance they may bear to real life situations are purely coincidence - have I covered myself yet :-)

What the funk is that smell

Well after nearly 3 days in bed, I actually got up this morning to try and have something to eat, but wherever I went in the house all I could smell was this really horrible stink. Now I'm not the best patient and Jac has taken great care of me whilst I've been ill, but had she really let the house get that bad as a result. After walking around each room, checking bins, dishwasher etc, it finally dawned on me where the smell was coming from......

It was me :-(

So today I did something crazy.

I had a bath. And now I'm back to smelling like a summer meadow :-)

The main focus of today has been eating to get my strength back up, in fact I've just swallowed up a portion of pasta as large as a small child, with more cheese than you'll find in an average Ben Cummins blog.

I don't know anything about today's current affairs, I've watched no news, though I did watch a fantastic film 'Ray' starring Jamie Foxx as the late Ray Charles Robinson. I would never have had myself down as Ray Charles fan, and this film certainly won't make you one (womaniser, 12 kids with 9 women, and drug addict) but I still thought it was a brilliant film and well worth a watch

The weather forecast for tomorrow, if you haven't seen Facebook, is snow, heavy snow. This makes me even more keen to get back to work...it's so much more fun in the snow, I'm just hoping we don't have any childcare issues as a result

As it turns out, I could probably have saved my snow pictures from the other day and used them tomorrow, but never mind. In the meantime lets have, the reason why dinosaurs hate yoga, the worlds most secure parking barrier and an article which highlights the importance of not missing out words

Bye bye for now

Blades and guns

A few news stories have made me think today, starting at 8ish this morning when Jac rushed into the bedroom saying 'put the news on, something has happened in London'. What we immediately saw was what looked like a bomb site, with fires burning and people running around. Of course we were relieved to find out that it wasn't a terrorist attack, I think the proximity to MI6 had people wondering that, but that doesn't effect the outcome

Two people lost their lives this morning, due to weather, human error or negligence we don't yet know, but those people won't be returning home tonight, and to their loved ones I doubt it makes any difference whether or not it was a terror attack. May they rest in peace

The next story which I have read online, via Facebook, is one about Barrack Obama and his moves to enforce stricter gun laws in the US. Friends of our lost their best friend's son in the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, a despicable and tragic event. As said by his father in an interview, an attack on children of that age is about as low as you can get and if the law makers don't do anything as a result of it then what will it really take.

I don't know whether approval will be given for everything that all sensible people can see is needed, and having seen the Piers Morgan interview with Alex Jones, there are certainly enough people ready to oppose it, but it is at least something to see a President that wants to change things and try to prevent another event like this from happening again

I managed to resist the urge to watch Jeremy Kyle today as had been suggested and instead filled the day with news reports, bailiffs and traffic cops

I will leave you today with a perfect stool for kilt wearers, a naive Tesco employee's response to a twitter joke and a picture of what may just be Southampton's most exciting shopping experience

Bye bye for now

Being sick is snow joke

This could possibly be my most boring blog yet, unless you read last nights

In a really strange sort of way, I've found a kind of twisted respect for people with eating disorders....let me finish.....being sick is gruesome, there are no redeeming features, none, and yet these people do it intentionally. Of course the motives are not healthy, but still

Today has been spent in bed, well between bed, bath and toilet (that sounds like a reasonable name for a home furnishings shop) as I'm a little bit poorly...still enough of that shit

I have had an insight into the life of unemployed people today, nothing to get out of bed for, eating rich tea biscuits and watching crap tv...actually a lot like being at work for some people ;-) Still the upside of today is I know exactly which PPI claims company offers the best deal (not that I've ever had any PPI) and I know which animals are most endangered....did you know there are less than 3200 tigers left in the world, and that's not GR-R-REAT!! (I actually looked up the correct spelling of great)

I was sent a link to a video tonight by the bride of the wedding I'm Best Man at in two weeks, the video was entitled 'how not to deliver a best man's speech'. Now I've watched it, and it was awful, I can't imagine a more inappropriate speech, though that doesn't mean I can't write one ;-)

Anyway, last nights blog had no pictures and i just know most people just scroll past the text for the pictures anyway, but it's a real shame because I had loads of snow related ones. So tonight as a special bonus i shall include the snow ones as well

So here is Batman saying what we were all thinking reading fb yesterday, a picture that shows you're never too young to be a geek, and one that shows the harsh realities of life for the snow people

And for today, everyday objects from a child's perspective, an unfortunate reason to attend the hospital and finally proof that if you learn form failure you can go on to be an even greater success

Bye bye for now
